Does art serve a purpose beyond the aesthetic? Judi Harvest thinks so. She wants her art not only to be beautiful but to do nothing less than change the world, or at least our perception of the world. Chief among her preoccupations is how humans interact with nature, now challenging the survival of the human race. Her research first into how bees are responsible for pollinating plants and flowers and now how bats, creatures of the night, help us live, inspire her art and lead her to study the homes they construct to protect themselves. Thus, her current project which involves the houses of both species has an ecological as well as an aesthetic meaning. She uses beauty to focus our attention on the danger of extinction that face both flying species.

L'arte ha uno scopo oltre l'estetica? Judi Harvest la pensa così. Vuole che la sua arte non sia solo bella ma non faccia altro che cambiare il mondo, o almeno la nostra percezione del mondo. Il principale tra le sue preoccupazioni è il modo in cui gli umani interagiscono con la natura, sfidando ora la sopravvivenza della razza umana. La sua ricerca prima su come le api sono responsabili dell'impollinazione di piante e fiori e ora come pipistrelli, creature della notte, ci aiutano a vivere ispirando la sua arte, portandola a studiare le case che costruiscono per proteggersi. Pertanto, il suo attuale progetto che coinvolge le case di entrambe le specie ha un significato ecologico oltre che estetico. Usa la bellezza per focalizzare la nostra attenzione sul pericolo di estinzione che affronta entrambe le specie volanti.
